They’ll need a crane

This weekend with the help and direction by our fabulous brother-in-law Dave, we’re building our backyard sidewalk. Today a big honkin’ truck came by with supplies, driven by a jolly guy who seemed to enjoy his work. Too bad there weren’t any little boys around to gawk…

Our bricks are the teeny little pile on the red flatbed.

I kept wondering if there had ever been any horrible accidents with these kinds of equipment…

Race result

Peter just ran the RunTO 10K today, and his time was a very nice 45:33. Woo-hoo! I can say I’m quite the proud spouse (especially since you won’t catch ME doing one of those any time soon!)

We were also quite chuffed to learn that he ran his 10K faster than the new Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, who ran one a week back at around 52 minutes. Of course, Eccleston also runs marathons. That’s not in the cards for anyone in this household quite yet!

Addition: Watch a video of Peter crossing the finish line here. Enter number “625” and watch for a guy in white shorts bomb in from far left.

Cottage Fun

(These two stories were written before and after our holiday weekend at the cottage. Yes, 546 is another TV channel. At least he was impressed with the trumpeter swan and swimming as well; he’s not a total TV addict. –L)

Playstation

Recently we’ve inherited a Playstation 1 set. (It started out as a customer incentive when Peter’s dad leased a new van, travelled between Peter’s siblings until they all got newer consoles, and finally landed in our laps.) It has a pathetically small library of games, including a Winnie-the-Pooh Kindergarten game appropriate for Jon.

Do they spike these video games with crack? Jon can only use one hand, and can only manage the buttons one at a time, which is not a very effective way of moving the cursor around. But within one day of playing the game – and despite not quite having gotten the hang of it yet –Jon was hooked. He begged to play more Playstation the next day, and it has replaced his afternoon TV shows as most-favoured-thing-to-do-during-break-time (too bad, Anna Olson!)

On the upside, we now have an extremely potent punishment, should we need to use it…

But on the subject of Playstations, here’s some questions for all and sundry: Where can we get old Playstation 1 games, new or used? And does anyone know of some titles that might be good for Jon? Anything up to approximately Grade 3 level; Kindergarten level would be just dandy. Most likely educational in focus rather than arcade-style: Jon just can’t see or move fast enough for twitch games. (Unless you know of any slow-twitch ones…)

I Love Bedtime

(“Flying” is getting spun around like an airplane, to the detriment of Peter’s back. Likes going to sleep? Lately that’s debatable –L)

Fun and Games at School

(Peter videotaped a T-ball game at Jon’s school. It is an absolute hoot; hopefully we’ll be able to post a video soon. The colours and names in the second story are the names of little song/chant booklets at school. The Snoezelen room has come up before, but is a big favourite of Jon’s. –L)
