Race result

Peter just ran the RunTO 10K today, and his time was a very nice 45:33. Woo-hoo! I can say I’m quite the proud spouse (especially since you won’t catch ME doing one of those any time soon!)

We were also quite chuffed to learn that he ran his 10K faster than the new Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, who ran one a week back at around 52 minutes. Of course, Eccleston also runs marathons. That’s not in the cards for anyone in this household quite yet!

Addition: Watch a video of Peter crossing the finish line here. Enter number “625” and watch for a guy in white shorts bomb in from far left.

  1. While in theory I approve of such things as physical fitness and outrunning Time Lords, I gotta say that I sure hated the Nike neighbourhood vs. neighbourhood ads. 1) They weren’t very funny, and 2) I hate the sight of slave-owning multinationals trying to act like hip local buddies of mine.

  2. Yeah yeah heard all that–hey, believe me, I’m the biggest anti-corporation person around (not a big surprise with relatives like mine). And I wasn’t crazy about the ads either. But the race day sounded fun and I wish I could’ve gone to watch (a bit of a hassle getting a wheelchair to the island). But I’m glad you approve of fitness, even if it’s only in theory.

  3. Yeah, they were irritating weren’t they? I saw one commentator in the paper rail at them and the company, but admit he was joining in the run. He grumbled that other10Ks don’t use such promotions, but let’s face it this was a big publicity event, and it attracted first-time race runners like me because it was so big and non-threatening. In the end, it was a great venue for my first 10K.

If it’s any consolation, there can be no doubt that simply by being there I lowered the cool quotient of the venue and the evil company by a degree of magnitude or two.

Oh ya, you know what? Almost nobody was actually wearing Nikes for the run.
