Remember the Cobb County stickers? Well, Andy B (aiabx in the comments) has kindly alerted me to Bobby Henderson, who is fighting the good fight against the Kansas “educational” system. Since he couldn’t beat them, he joined them. Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. You may yet be a believer.
And little more to add to Laura’s entry about the new blog space. The first time you try to comment your comment will be held until it is approved by the administrator, just so we know you aren’t trying to sell something we don’t feel like advertising. So don’t panic if your post doesn’t apprear right away the first time. And no longer will your email address be shown.
BTW if you are viewing this in Safari, look at the cool use of CSS3.0 in the upper left hand corner. Doesn’t show up in Firefox yet. Nice work Laura!
It has been a full week since we stepped into the abyss and didn’t give Jon a diaper overnight.
We’d noticed that he’s been pretty conscientious about his overnight toileting the past while, and L & I realized that it had been weeks since he’d had a wet diaper in the morning. So we risked it, and it paid off.
Jon is pretty unique in that, so far, the only real interest he’s shown towards toiletting ihas been overnight. It’s hard to know for sure, but during the daytime I get the feeling that he just can’t be bothered. Toiletting would only interrupt more fun stuff, even with the candy rewards he gets. After all, it means a trip to the toilet either upstairs or downstairs and massive inconvenience for everyone. Add to that the quiet time for self-reflection post-bedtime, and there you have it.
And we can’t ignore the security that the diaper brings. Second night in, he refused to sleep until he had a diaper on. I agreed, but made a deal that if it was dry next morning, that we’d consider doing another no diaper night. He agreed, then sighed, “Another deal.” And he made sure it was wet–just a little–the next morning.
But we’ve kept at it. We’ll see if we can spend a month or two cementing this behaviour, then see where we can go from there.

Weird cloud over Severn Sound
A nice weekend at the cottage. Jon has adjusted his outdoor activities schedule to his allow for his new activites, as follows:
Jon met a new friend on the communal raft, a young gent named David who was very kind and took any differences completely in stride, without questions. It was very nice for Jon to find a brand new friend.
We celebrated Grandpa’s 70th birthday with the Lundy/Lyons clans and Mike and I shot off fireworks as it started to rain. The wind was low so we shot them right off the beach (last time the wind was so strong we had to shoot them off the dock). Jon is now totally into fireworks, no fear, just total anticipation and laughter.
Then Jon got to try sparklers for the first time, which was a brand new thrill.

Friend Judith celebrated her 40th with a great party last week. And we all got loot bags with subversive smuggled goodies! Well, maybe not smuggled, but we don’t print on M&M’s in Canada, and whoever does in the States doesn’t ship them up here, so there was some sort of clandestine border-crossing arrangement to get these into our hot, little hands. Within which they did not melt.

I turned 40 the other day. I only knew Laura was up to something on the computer just prior to us leaving for the cottage, since she as much as admitted it, but I also knew it couldn’t be anything very big, because SHE HAD TOLD ME THAT. Oy. I’m not too bright.
So we get home from the cottage and an hour or two later she casually sends me a link to “a cute site” called http://projectbegonia.ca. Which it turns out most of you knew about already. Suddenly she’s sitting beside me, watching my reaction. Which is fairly gobsmacked, quite frankly. It was amazing! Astounding! So many people got creative! And it was a fitting revenge for the 40th Birthday DVD I gave her last year.
Thanks to everyone who was part of it, and apologies to anyone who missed out because of bad email addresses and such. Both Laura and I agree that future projects, surprise or otherwise, will be a lot easier when you can share the trials and tribulations with the other creative in the house.
My sister Pam showed up the same afternoon with her hand-created hardware version of my life: an amazing series of collages recollecting my life to date and peppered with layers of references from our childhood. Wow!

Thanks everybody!
