I’ve been excited for weeks about the upcoming arrival of the iTunes Canada store (being on a Mac prevents me from using any of the other Canadian online music stores.)
Problem is, now that it’s finally here my mind is completely blank as to songs I want to download!
Any favourites/suggestions?

Ah, an honest shopper much like myself. I find that my previous purchases on Amazon allow some good suggestions from their suggestion program. Similarly, Yahoo!music & Yahoo videos allow you to refine your tastes and exclude artists & genres you don’t like. I’ve found a fair bit of stuff that way.
If you’re feeling less honest but still don’t want to break any laws, check out a P2P network and do some random searches. Keep track of the tunes with the most servers serving them. You might be missing out on something.

P2P downloading (as opposed to uploading) may technically be not breaking any laws in Canada, but I’d rather pony up and at least theoretically see the artist provided with their tiny pittance rather than with nothing at all. I’m weird that way.

Well, since we Canadians already pay a levy on our storage media, you may as well download the music you’ve paid for, secure in the knowledge that Celine Dion will get the money you wanted Moxy Fruvous to get.

That’s the one fly in supporting artist rights: Celine Dion 🙂
It also annoys me having to support the recording industry fatcats along with the artists. I hope that the online stores start supporting independent artists more soon–I looked for a few of my favourite indy artists (Canadian and non-Canadian) in iTunes and couldn’t find a single one.

iTunes – MIA
Went to the iTunes Music Store last night, looking for music Luisa and I were talking about with the kids. Stuff like Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. It wasn’t there. There were lots of other ‘Floyd albums, but not the top, number one album of my high school …
