Home is not an analgesic. Asleep, he was so peaceful that Laura and I forgot about his 10 p.m. dose of Tylenol, and Jon awoke at 12:45 in major pain, including the first muscle spasms we’ve seen since surgery. We pulled out some heavier pharmaceutical guns, and with that and a half hour of hugging Mom, he calmed down and slept the night through. Except for us waking him up every four hours for Tylenol—we’ve learned our lesson.

Eeeek – close call
Remember drugs are your friend and Jon’s best friend.
Hugs and wishes of pain free to all!
So glad to hear you’re home now! I hope last night went well, and his recovery is speedy!
It’s so counterintuitive to wake a beatifically sleeping boy. My usual reaction to such a suggestion is to ask if I want any wisdom teeth out at the same time. But, in this case, obviously so necessary. Sigh.
We’re so glad to hear that Jon is home, and doing so much better than expected. Again, call if we can be of any help (shopping, coffee delivery, etc.). 🙂
Last night was much better. When Jon awoke at one for more meds, he tried to moved as though he wasn’t in two splints, and that was a mistake.
Trouble right now is the pressure sore building under his weak leg’s zimmer. I can feel the pressure point–the end of a bar of metal in the splint, covered in foam. What to do?
Hello there!
I hope things are going a little better today. We came home Wednesday and are off Sunday to the Nass valley to teach at the Nisga’a college for a couple of days, then visit the log cabin in the Spatsizi: a hotspot of political unrest in the remote woods, since 12 mining projects are hotly pursuing copper, coal, and coalbed methane, and the Tahltans are in conflict over it.
It was so great to see your terrific pictures of your visit to Quadra. What great closeups you can take: the spike on the dogfish dorsal fin looks enormous!
I found on of Jon’s books at Tangwyn, about that nice little pig. I enjoyed those books. Shall I get Sev to mail it to you?
I hope things settle down well soon. Lots of love.
Nana Tara.
Wow, what a journey. I’m glad to hear that Jon is home and doing better, and that Mom and Dad get to be home as well. Living in the hospital with a sick child is one of the toughest things to endure. You’re all in my thoughts—here’s hoping the recovery goes as well as the surgery seems to have.
Hugs all around,
Elizabeth
And here you thought the trip out to Vancouver was going to be a short summer VACATION. Cold icky weather out here(you guys left before it got sunny and hot), Red Tide at Quadra, and then an epic ordeal before you could finally all get home. Please don’t write Vancouver off. We’re not jinxed. Honestly!
We’re thinking of you all the time
Tamiko
