We at PLJ, of course, are huge The Daily Show fans (even Jon can recognize Jon Stewart at his desk, from the Between the Lions promos).
This week will be an especial treat for anyone rightfully appalled at the way US politicians are trying to discredit science and evolution, with a four-part series called Evolution, Schmevolution (the first segment was tonight, but it will continue through this Thursday). The commentary that correspondent Ed Helms makes about a fervent anti-evolutionist in Dayton, Tennessee (where the Scopes monkey trial was held in 1925) was nasty and priceless. And the stinger at the end of the show (“the Moment of Zen”)—an audio clip of a man railing against gays that sounded like ravings from a religious crank from 60 years ago, but was actually recorded comments from a governmental official made just last year—proved that The Daily Show is out for blood.
Whoa, thanks so much for mentioning this! I saw just the last few minutes of the interview last night and didn’t know about Evolution, Schmevolution. I just finished watching the whole 4:00pm next day repeat. Barked out loud a few times.

I’ve said it before, that man was *born* to do that job. The great writers and reporters sure help, but the host is the interface, and man, he rocks. Imagine it with,say, Ed Koch or Judge Judy.

And by Jon, I meant Jon Stewart, the legal name of the host of the Daily Show, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz and not Jonathan Kumashige Cook Suzuki, or even Jonathan Kumashige Suzuki Cook, both born cute.
Now JKCS (or JKSC) could be *part* Jewish, if the story is true that the Japanese people are descended from the Lost Tribes of Israel. But I doubt it.
If anyone is so inclined, the various wikipedia pages on these topics (ID, evolution, creationism) can be entertaining. People fight over them all of the time. A recent radio ad from Roger’s kinda sums up my position on evolution though, “How did Plato use the myth of the cave to distinguish opinion from true knowledge?”.
I just want to thank you for the Daily Show link (for the videos there), that Schmevolution Panel was like, wow, deep! (No joke.) The panelists stated an honest short assessment. What is the world coming to? I howled like a chimp.
