Blog spam make Peter-Hulk angry

Grrr. A very odd event, but the second time it has happened: I was deleting a spam comment to this post, and when I rebuilt it had become the message!!

The original message is gone. Not that it was much of a message. The first time it happened we thought it was an accident (hence the title of this post), but now that it’s happened twice, I’ll assume that someone clever with no life has found a little bug that allows this malicious hack. It apparently requires the right conditions–I must have been sloppy in how I went about deleting…very odd.

Wretched issues, just when I was going to leave a comment.

Hey! Why, you! I oughta –

Hey Peter, I think the latest version of MT has some anti-comment-spam stuff in it. Of course, there is also always WordPress. 🙂

  4. Peter says:

I’ll be testing WordPress somewhere else shortly. The latest version of MT does have that stuff, but given their rates don’t work for us. One author is allowed to have three blogs for free…but two authors have to pay US $70 for one blog. We’ll stick with the old version, which didn’t make that stipulation.

From what I’ve been reading, the Version 3 did not improve the spam situation, but they have hired someone famous for security coding and are working on some kind of upgrade.
But they do have this for all blog creators: the Six Apart Guide to Comment Spam at http://sixapart.com/pronet/comment_spam.html. Enjoy.
